Father's Day 2023

                  FATHER’S DAY 2023

How important is our role as fathers today?  It seems that our society has greatly minimized the role of the father in our families today.  Fathers are  made fun of in TV shows, movies, and commercials.  Yet, when we look into God’s Word, the role of the father is extremely important in the development of the family.  It would be easy to turn this article into a dad-bashing account of all of the ways that dads have failed in our society, and there is a time for admonition and  correction when men don’t do their jobs, but it is not today.

There are a lot of dads out there who take their God-given roles and responsibilities seriously and strive hard to be good leaders in their families.  It was especially encouraging this past week during our Vacation Bible School to see several fathers bring their children to the study.  It was uplifting to see fathers interacting with their children during the week.  It is good to be reminded from time to time of the weight and importance of a father’s role, but we need to also be encouraged in the work that we do as fathers.  It is a long, tough, and challenging responsibility to be a dad, but the benefits are more than worth the effort to remain faithful.  So, Dads, continue to pray, continue to seek God, keep loving and leading your families, and “fighting the good fight of faith.” 1 Timothy 6:12

What a great day to remember and honor our dads.  Let me offer a word of encouragement to all dads today on your special day.  You are important.  Your role is huge.  Never underestimate your role in the family.  It is worth all of the effort and work you put into your role as a father.  It makes a great difference in your family, more than any of us may know.

Think about this for a moment.  God allows us as fathers the honor of sharing one of His special names- FATHER.  Your work and effort will impact the way  your family sees God as its heavenly Father.
What a great role!  What a great title, position, and privilege to be called father.

Our relationship with God matters more than we think it does.  Our relationship impacts more than just us.  The best thing we can do for ourselves and our families is seek God and worship Him above all others.  We need to teach our families about the beauty of God with our words and our lives.  May you never grow weary in your role as a father.  God needs strong, faithful, and loving fathers.
