The Word of the Lord Endures Forever!

“The Word of The Lord Endures Forever!”

One of my favorite verses in the Old Testament is found in Isaiah 5:20-21. The prophet of the Lord writes, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! Woe to those that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight.”  Isaiah’s indictment against his own people, a people that had successfully succeeded in turning truth on its head, is no less applicable today. Isaiah could just as well have been commenting on our society and condemning us for the sad state of affairs around us today.

Think about these things going on today, and see if they fall into Isaiah’s rebuke of the children of Israel.

1.Lying is now considered clever and acceptable. The truth is dismissed as misinformation.
2.Those who sin and do wrong are applauded and those attempting to do right are ridiculed.
3.Indecency and immorality are winked at while courage and honesty are snickered at.
4.Alternative lifestyles and marriages are encouraged while traditional marriages are out of date.
5.Rudeness and coarse language are common place while manners and civility are decreasing.
6.Murder, rape, and robbery are glorified in movies while traditional values are canceled.

While you may think of many other statements to add to those above, remember that eventually the truth will prevail. It always has, and it always will. In the final analysis, when all has been said and done, and when all the powerful nations have crumbled, the truth will win out.  Many will denounce it. Many will deny it. Many will demonize it and do their best to extinguish it. Rest assured that in the end, the truth will prevail.

Isaiah’s people died in captivity, yet the truth was not extinguished. The truth marched on, and it outlasted all of the deniers and skeptics of his day. Those of our days will also go the way of all flesh and perish. However, the truth will outlast all of us as well.

Peter writes in I Peter 1:24-25, “For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls away; but the word of the Lord endures forever.” God’s Word will never be eliminated by men, try as they might, and they have for centuries. God’s Word will prevail. The truth marches on and on as long as the world stands.
